Angels

“Do you believe in Angels?”, I asked Sophi. And she said, “No, mommy.” “Why? “, I asked again. “Because I can’t see them”, she answered.
That was how our topic about guardian angels started.
I just took a deep breath first before going on with the topic. I knew I’m going to have a hard time explaining it to her so a deep breath would be a good start for me.
We first read what’s in her book then followed by the story of “An Angel Visits Mary” from her bible story book. I am quite confident that I have explained to her properly why God sends angels to us. But to my dismay, when I asked her again if she now believes in angels her answer is still NO! She doesn’t see them so she doesn’t believe them. I laughed hard. I was like explaining it to her for an hour already, giving so many examples and yet she still doesn’t believe them. Probably, kids are all like that. They won't believe it until they've tried it themselves or seen it by themselves or at least seen any proof of it.
Then I remembered an instance when she was still a baby. I told her that story.
She was not a year older then. She was in her wooden baby crib playing by herself. My sister (her Aunt Joanne) and I were also there sitting on the sofa chit-chatting. Then she started crying. She got up on her crib, crying out loud and reaching out her arms for me to get her. She was climbing out of her crib already. And to my horror, she fell. She fell with her head on the carpeted floor. I was hysterical then. I was mad at myself for not responding to her cries quickly. I didn’t know what to do. My sister, who is a nurse too, told me to stay calm. She checked Sophi for some head bumps or any swollen part. Luckily, there was none. My sister’s assurance that there was nothing serious happened on her calmed me a little. And to calm me more, my sister told me that babies have ANGELS with them. It must have been true at all. It was almost a bad fall but I have to say an ANGEL saved her from getting harmed. Thank God for the ANGEL He sent.
After telling that story, I asked her again if she believes now in ANGELS. She said, “YES. He saved me when I was a baby. But why I can’t see them?” She’s still doubtful, I can say. I answered her that ANGELS are invisible. They don’t want to be seen. But if you are a good girl, then someday you can see them. They’re like MAGIC! And she said, “Ahhhhhh, ok”. Her eyes were sparkling brightly when I said MAGIC. MAGIC must have been the magic word. She didn’t bother to ask another question after that.
So to end our lesson for this week’s topic about GUARDIAN ANGELS, I asked her to write a letter to her GUARDIAN ANGEL.
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone”. - Psalm 91:11-12
